Council is marking National Reconciliation Week with a flag raising ceremony to recognise the importance of coming together to promote reconciliation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
The ceremony is an open event being held at 9.30am, Saturday 29 May at the Bayside Corporate Centre, 76 Royal Avenue, Sandringham. All welcome.
Bayside Mayor Cr Laurence Evans OAM will join N’arweet Dr Carolyn Briggs AM, Elder of the Boon Wurrung people to raise the flags symbolising reconciliation.
Reconciliation Week is held from 27 May - 3 June each year, commemorating two significant Reconciliation milestones — the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.
This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme is ‘More than a word. Reconciliation takes action’.
Bayside Council acknowledges the traditional owners of this land and pays respect to Elders, past and present.
