📚 National Literacy Month Excursion: The Last Bookstore
The Hamilton Essentials Foundation is heading out on an exciting literacy adventure! Join us as we travel together by train to in Los Angeles — California’s largest new and used book and record store!
✨ What better way to celebrate National Literacy Month than with books, history, and community? This is a FREE outing for all ages, with no cover charge to enter the bookstore.
We are traveling, by train, to Union Station from the San Bernardino Metrolink, and one subway for an historical bookwalk of the bookstore, have some lunch and have an amazing experience. There is free parking at the train station.
Youth must be accommodated by a responsible adult - NO EXCEPTIONS!

💵 Estimated Travel Costs
- Metrolink Train (Round Trip): $10 per person
- 🎉 Kids Ride Free! On weekends, up to 3 children (age 18 & under) ride free with a fare-paying adult using a Weekend Day Pass.
- Weekdays: Kids age 5 & under ride free (limit 3 per adult).
- Tickets: Buy at station machines or through the Metrolink App (iOS & Android).
🚉 Metro Subway (Round Trip): $4 per person
- $2.00 one-time purchase of TAP card.
- $1.75 each way subway fare.
- TAP cards sold at any Metro station or authorized vendors.
- Discounts available for students, seniors, and low-income riders
🥪 Lunch Options
- Bring your own packed lunch
- Bring snacks for the train if you like
- And/OR grab something delicious at one of the many nearby spots.

- Cross-body bag or backpack (keep valuables secure & out of sight)
- Respect & awareness — be mindful of surroundings and compassionate toward those experiencing homelessness
