About this Event

Regional SEND workshop at Elms Bank School and College on Friday October 4th 10.00-15.30.

ENGAGEMENT THROUGH DRAMA

with Gill Brigg and Morgan Meredith

This one-day workshop will cover a range of approaches to Drama with SEND pupils. Gill will focus on emotional engagement in stories and teaching in role. Meredith will explore the different Drama approaches used within the five bespoke learning pathways offered at Elms Bank.

There will be a range of activities throughout the day including workshops, Q and A, along with some theoretical underpinning. Teachers will be given a set of adaptable lesson plans to take away and use in school.

It is hoped that there will be contributions from the students at Elms Bank.

This event is relevant to all teachers working in specialist SEND settings, regardless of previous Drama experience, and across all phases, including post-16.

Dr Gill Brigg and Morgan Meredith will co-lead the day.

Dr Gill Brigg

Gill has over 40 years’ experience as a cross-phase drama teacher, theatre-maker, and advisory teacher. With an M.Ed and a PhD, she has worked for the last 20 years in Specialist Schools as a TIE performer, Drama specialist, and class teacher. She now works nationally and internationally with teachers, actors, and academics, developing their practice with neurodivergent groups.

Morgan Meredith

Morgan is a newly qualified Drama, Music, and Performing Arts Teacher, graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2022. Morgan currently works at an SEN school in Bury as the lead teacher for the Performing Arts. She has experience in a variety of educational settings including mainstream, SEN and EHE; working in collaboration with staff, students, and the wider community to ensure pupils access, explore and engage within an Arts based education. Morgan is passionate about Drama being accessible for all learners as a tool for self-expression and creativity, highlighting how Drama's role within the curriculum enhances the opportunity for young people to know themselves, and the world around them.
