About this Event
December 6th is the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, marking the anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. On Wednesday, December 6th, the SFU community is invited to attend the in-person memorial co-hosted by the SFU Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office (SVSPO), SFU Women in Engineering and other campus partners to remember and honour the victims of this tragedy and take action against gender-based violence.
This event will start at the memorial bench site outside of the Faculty of Applied Science Building and we will continue with a community conversation at the SFSS Student Union Building Ballroom.
Please RSVP for this event to ensure that you receive the Zoom link if campus is closed due to inclement weather and the event is moved online.
This year, we are hosting the vigil and memorial on December 5, one day before the National Day of Remembrance & Action on Violence Against Women, to ensure that more students and staff can join us before exam week begins.
*This memorial has been co-organized by SFU’s Women in Engineering, the Sexual Violence Support & Prevention Office, Human Rights Office, Bullying & Harassment Central Hub, Academic Women, Equity Office and the SFSS Women’s Centre.
