This year the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event will be taking place on Sunday, September 29th, 2024 at Memorial Peace Park in Maple Ridge, beginning at 10am until 3 pm.The theme is “Acknowledging Indigenous Resilience” and is being planned by a large group of local organizations who believe strongly in bringing this event and its important message to Maple Ridge and the surrounding communities.
This collaborative community event is hosted by Katzie First Nation, Fraser River Indigenous Society, BC Spokes and PLEA Community Services. It is proudly sponsored by a number of generous supporters including RBC, Canadian Heritage, the Province of BC and the City of Maple Ridge.
The day’s events that will feature:
- An opening march
- Indigenous guest speakers
- Local Indigenous dancers, drummers, and artists who will share their cultural artistry throughout the day
- Special guest motivational speaker and hiphop artist K.A.S.P.
- Orange shirt painting
- Over 50 vendors & artisans
- The creation of a community art piece, and much more.
