The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at ASU will observe the 69th Anniversary of the Montgomery Bus Boycott on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 11 a.m. The program will be at the ASU Montgomery Interpretative Center gallery, located in front of The ASU Stadium.The theme is “The Montgomery Bus Boycott in Film—Untold Truths, Distorted Facts, and Forgotten Heroes?”
Montgomery Bus Boycott took place from December 5, 1955 – December 21, 1956, which under the leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Montgomery Improvement Association, and with the cooperation of 50,000 blacks in the city, defeated the system of bus segregation in the city.
A panel of scholars, a boycott participant, and family members of boycott activists will examine the depiction of events and individuals and evaluate the program’s theme.
