Nathan Hall: Rock Music
Advertisement
Please join us for the show opening of Rock Music, by Nathan Hall, in the Black Rock Art Gallery at Joshua Tree National Park. Nathan was an Artist in Residence
in the spring of 2023. Rock Music is a collection of graphic scores that evoke the plants and landscape features common to Joshua Tree, as well as often-overlooked or underappreciated elements of the park. The textures of individual stones, the colors of flowers at their peak, the ebb and flow of campsites, the sounds of visitors in buildings, and even a tortoise tracking device, all make appearances as shapes and lines on the page. Each piece is accompanied by a short music realization to accompany the work, performed by the artist along with several by Denver-based violinist and composer Michiko Theurer.
Bio

Nathan holds his Doctorate of Musical Arts from CU Boulder
and currently teaches music composition at the University of Denver and at RMCAD. He is an artist in residence at RedLine Contemporary Art Center and lives in Denver with his husband, Andy.
