Early show for a BIG Nashville summer Saturday night!About RB MORRIS:
https://www.rbmorris.com
Knoxville-based RB Morris has been described as a “cross between a rural Tom Waits and an urban Woody Guthrie”. The songwriter, poet, and actor is incorporating theater and spoken-word into his current ensemble of musicians, which includes cello player, Cecilia Wright, multi-instrumentalist, Greg Horne, and percussionist extraordinaire, Hunter Deacon.
RB has released seven full-length albums, including the newly released “Going Back To The Sky” (Singular Recordings) produced by Bo Ramsey. With an uncanny synthesis of strength and tranquility, the dynamic interplay between the instruments reverberate with the vocals crooning captivating songwriting.
"Wisdom, humor, tradition, originality, reverence for the landscape and an unsentimental love of living amidst one's fellow humans all join to create this impressively out of the ordinary recording,” wrote Jerry Clark of Rambles.NET.
He made his debut in 1997 with “Take That Ride” on John Prine’s Oh Boy! Records, and his follow-up “Zeke And The Wheel” (Koch Records) was nominated for Americana Album of the Year by the American Association of Independent Merchandisers. RB’s songs have been recorded by John Prine and Marianne Faithfull, and he has toured and shared the stage with Lucinda Williams, Steve Earle, John Prine and others. He has enjoyed recent performances on NPR's "Morning Edition", at the Country Music Hall of Fame and was featured at the annual Southern Festival of Books.
Serving as the Jack E. Reese Writer-in-Residence at The University of Tennessee from 2004-2008, RB Morris was inducted into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame in 2009. He wrote and acted in “The Man Who Lives Here Is Loony”, a one-man play taken from the life and work of James Agee, and was instrumental in founding a park dedicated to Agee in Knoxville, TN. RB was a featured artist in the PBS television series “Music Voyager,” themed on Knoxville and East Tennessee, and he was named the Poet Laureate of The Sphere Conference, International Letterpress Convention held at the Knoxville Convention Center in 2015. In 2016, Morris was awarded Knoxville’s first official Poet Laureate by Mayor Madeline Rogero and the Arts and Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville.
