Writing is a spiritual calling for workshop leader Denise Low, former Kansas Poet Laureate. She will share how spirituality for writers manifests in memory, nature, religious services, prayer, meditation, and independent practices, and how narrative architectures can build on linear plotlines, drama, dialogue, associations, and dream-like sequences. Her own ties to Indigenous communities inform how she connects arts and spirituality. For the first workshop, participants should bring a short passage to share, from a favorite writer or their own writing, that illustrates their spirituality. The second workshop will focus more deeply on spirituality in personal writings. These may include journals, memoirs, and storytelling. The second workshop may be taken without attending the first. Poets are welcome to participate and learn prose techniques that often apply to verse. Teens are welcome.
On January 11, after a dinner break, participants are welcome to read in the Narrative Open Mic event at THE 222, 6:30 – 8 PM.
