We’re excited to welcome film director Maggie Greenwald to the artificial skies of ODU’s Le Planetarium to discuss her groundbreaking feminist western THE BALLAD OF LITTLE JO (1993), recently restored by Kino Lorber. Moderating the discussion will be ODU Film Studies professor Dr. Najmeh Moradiyan-Rizi.

“An exemplary and often starkly beautiful tale -- a mix of adventure and romance which succeeds in reinstating female experience into a genre which has by definition sidelined it.” - Claire Monk, SIGHT & SOUND

“After bearing an illegitimate child, society girl Josephine Monaghan (Amis) leaves home in disgrace. On the road west, she discovers that a woman alone is sexual prey for any man—so she disguises herself as a boy. As Little Jo, she confronts all the dangers the Wild West has to offer—from deadly winters to murderous outlaws. But her most treacherous enemy is her own heart—when she risks everything by falling in love with the one man who discovers her secret.” – Kino Lorber
