About this Event
The Rotary Club of Alexandria, as a member of the Strategic Water Alliance (SWA) of Rotary International District 7610, is hosting theNancy Van Gulick Cooper 2025 Walk for Water. This year our walk will be held at Jones Point Park in Alexandria, VA on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 9:00 AM.
It’s estimated that 844 million people lack access to clean water according to WHO and 1000 children die each day due to illness caused by drinking contaminated water. The SWA has completed 53 projects in seven countries totaling over $1,048,552.00, providing clean water, sanitation and hygiene to over 80,000 Global Citizens helping to solve this global problem.
This effort is accomplished through Global Grants from Rotary International and clubs from around the world. Our thanks to our SWA participating Rotary Clubs: Alexandria, Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads, Washington - Dulles International Airport, Dunn Loring-Merrifield, Fairfax, Fredericksburg, Rappahannock- Fredericksburg, Falls Church, Sterling, Great Falls, Herndon-Reston, Leesburg Evening, Leesburg Daybreak, Manassas Bull Run, Manassas, McLean, Tysons, Vienna, West Springfield, Stafford, North Stafford, Gainesville-Haymarket, and Crystal City - Pentagon.
Water and sanitation facilities keep students and teachers at schools. This has been an essential part of the program. Challenges exist when there is perhaps a maintenance issue way out in the bush and the locals don’t necessarily take the steps to remedy the situation. All the money raised from the walk goes directly to the projects in need.
