About this Event
NAMI In Our Own Voice presentations change attitudes, assumptions and ideas about people with mental health conditions. This free presentation provides a personal perspective of mental health conditions, as two leaders with lived experience - Brandon and Laura - talk openly about what it’s like to have a mental health condition.
Brandon was diagnosed with PTSD and depression. A self described nerd, Brandon is also a former US Marine who then spent 15 years in law enforcement. Brandon is also a suicide attempt surviver who now is doing mental heath advocacy.
Laura has depression and anxiety. She enjoys reading, spending time with her family, and couponing. Laura enjoys mental health advocacy and is passionate about expanding the access to and quality of mental health care in our community.
This presentation provides:
- An opportunity to hear open and honest perspectives on a highly misunderstood topic
- A chance to ask leaders questions, allowing for a deeper understanding of mental health conditions and dispelling of stereotypes and misconceptions
- The understanding that people with mental health conditions have lives enriched by hopes, dreams and goals
- Information on how to learn more about mental health and get involved with the mental health community
