NAMI National was established in 1979, a group of families came together around a kitchen table in Madison, WI, to create the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization. This initiative began when two mothers sought support for their children. Today with over 600 NAMI affiliates nationwide, NAMI is committed to improving the lives of the millions of Americans impacted by mental illness.
NAMI Delaware was founded in 1983 by Simon and Jill Shute along with a group of families desperate for support for their loved ones. Over the years the organization has grown to provide a wide range of awareness, advocacy, support, education and housing to support those affected by mental illness in Delaware.
The NAMIWalks program is an award-winning initiative and the largest, most vibrant mental health event series in the country. NAMIWalks encourages supporters to share their stories, build community, and walk together in support of achieving Mental Health for All.
