In collaboration with RIVMED (Riverina Medical and Dental Aboriginal Corporation), Wagga Wagga Marketplace is proud to launch NAIDOC Week celebrations for 2024. Join us in the first week of the July School Holidays to honor First Nations culture's enduring strength and vitality under this year’s theme: “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.” This theme celebrates the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture, with fire symbolising the deep connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.Date: July 8th – July 12th, 2024

Event Highlights:
Welcome to Country: An official Welcome to Country ceremony by respected local elder Aunty Joycelan on Monday at 10:15 am, marking the beginning of our celebrations.
Dreamtime Story and Craft Program: Facilitated by local elder Aunty Joycelan and the team from RIVMED, this activity program offers three sessions daily from July 8th to July 12th. Each session lasts approximately 45 minutes. Aunty Joycelan and the RIVMED team will share Dreamtime stories relevant to the Wiradjuri people, providing a unique opportunity to learn about their rich cultural heritage. The stories will be followed by a crafting session that will differ day to day, please book multiple sessions if you wish to experience the different offerings.
Community Mural: Throughout the week, contribute to a community-led artwork. Participants, including parents and children, can help create a mural that represents traditional Aboriginal artwork. This mural will be on display until the end of July, allowing the community to admire the collaborative effort and learn about traditional art techniques.
