——— NADAH EL SHAZLY (EG)Renowned for blending experimental sounds with traditional Arabic influences, Nadah El Shazly has garnered international acclaim for her genre-defying artistry, mesmerising vocals, and avant-garde arrangements. Her 2017 debut album Ahwar earned global praise for merging heritage with innovation, establishing her as a leading figure in contemporary music.
Her live performances are immersive, combining her enthralling voice with sound manipulation and dynamic collaborations. She has worked with innovators such as Sam Shalabi, Elvin Brandhi, and Maurice Louca, and performed at festivals including Irtijal, Le Guess Who?, Rewire, Roskilde, and Copenhagen Jazz Festival.
El Shazly is also active in Cairo’s independent music scene and has composed award-winning soundtracks, including Les Damnés ne pleurent pas (2022), which won Best Original Music at Bordeaux and Dublin International Film Festivals. She has since scored Last Party in R. Desert! and To a Land Unknown.
Her new album Laini Tani conveys the rush of balmy nights and urban chaos through a balance of Egyptian improvisation, voice manipulation, and electronic beats. Co-produced with 3Phaz and long-time collaborator Sarah Pagé, it explores contrasts between indulgence and contemplation, spontaneity and reflection. Each track serves as a vignette, weaving intimate narratives through layered metaphors and vibrant soundscapes.
With Laini Tani, El Shazly invites listeners into a deeply personal world that marks her artistic evolution while celebrating her roots and community. Seamlessly meshing experimental daring with tradition, she affirms her place as a vital voice in global music, defined by fearless creativity and boundless possibility.
