Myla is a bright, brave 9-year-old who has spent her life battling Sturge-Weber Syndrome—a rare neurological condition that has caused seizures since she was just six months old. Over the years, she and her family have faced countless challenges: frequent seizures, constant medication adjustments, developmental delays, and academic hurdles. Despite everything, Myla continues to inspire everyone around her with her determination and radiant spirit.
Recently, Myla’s seizures have become medication-resistant, increasing in frequency and posing greater risks to her long-term health. After exhausting all other treatment options, her medical team has recommended a hemispherectomy—an intricate and highly specialized surgery to disconnect the affected half of her brain. This surgery, performed at Boston Children’s Hospital, offers hope for a safer and healthier future, but it also comes with a long and demanding recovery process.
Myla and her parents will need to remain in Boston for several weeks—and potentially months—to ensure she receives the intensive care and rehabilitation necessary for the best outcome. The emotional, financial, and logistical strain of such a journey is immense, and that is why Myla’s Mission: Boston Bound Benefit was created.
