Celebrate Climate Week NYC and discover the fascinating world of fungi and their important role in the Staten Island ecosystem! Join us for a one-hour film screening of bold new visions of the fungal. Screening will be followed with a one-hour mushroom walk in the Alice Austen House grounds and garden, led by New York Mycological Society amateur mycologist Victoria Bayevskiy. Magnifying hand lenses will be provided. Beginners and all ages welcome.

is a 501(c)(3) not- for-profit organization dedicated to increasing the awareness, knowledge, appreciation and protection of fungi. NYMS believes that passionate, knowledgeable amateurs are important contributors to science and fungal conservation. NYMS is an entirely volunteer-run club and is open to anyone with an interest in fungi — no prior knowledge is required to join one of our walks, identification sessions, or lectures. The present New York Mycological Society was founded in 1962 by the avant garde composer John Cage. Learning and the enjoyment of nature with a diverse community of people from all walks of life continue to be at the center of the club’s activities today.
