Dust off your tuxedo and shine your shoes for glamour and gold on the French Riveria! Principality of Monaco is a modern-day playground for the rich, with billion-dollar yachts, marble palaces, glitz and elegance around every cobble-stone corner, from opulent casinos to beautiful people packing the beaches, get ready for the high-life!
A mere 25km long between Austria and Switzerland, nestled in the heart of the Alps, dotted with charming mountainside villages, snow-capped peaks, and crisp alpine air along every trail and trek, with medieval castles fit for a fairy-tale, onwards to the Principality of Lichtenstein!
Next up is the mountainous microstate of San Marino in northern Italy, among the world’s oldest republics, brimming with historic architecture, and perched on the slopes of Monte Titano’s walled old city and 11th century citadels, with pristine panoramas as far as the eye can see.
Last stop is Vatican City, the spiritual heart of Catholicism, dominated by St. Peter’s Square and Basilica, where history, art, and faith intertwine, brimming with Renaissance treasures and Michelangelo’s masterpieces in the Sistine Chapel.
Size doesn’t matter on this quest through microstates with maximum wonder, from the glamour of Monaco to the spiritual Vatican City, the alpine charm of Lichtenstein to the medieval splendor of San Marino, all the way from Andorra’s natural beauty, the smallest countries on the planet will surely leave the biggest impressions!
Let’s go!!
Day 1 // Barcelona to Andorra
After arrival in Barcelona, immigration formalities, and a perk-up Spanish latte, we’ll hit the road to Andorra! We’ll have a quick stop in Montserrat with a cable-car ride to the top and a trek back down before we reach our hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 2 // Andorra, Toulouse, and Nice
We’ll have a hearty breakfast before heading out to explore and trek the Andorran glacial valley of Madriu-Perafita-Claror. Continue to Toulouse for dinner and further on to Nice where we’ll check-in to our hotel for the night.
Day 3 // Nice, Monaco, and Basel
We’ll have an early start with boat ride to Monaco! With a quick look around the marina where the billion-dollar yachts are parked, pass by the casino with a tuxedo-only dress-code, and explore the mansions and palaces of this playground for the well-to-do. We’ll head back to Nice by boat in time for dinner and a quick hop to Basel afterwards for hotel check-in.
Day 4 // Basel, Lichtenstein, Zurich, and Florencia
Start the day on the train to Lichtenstein! We’ll trek around this idyllic country of medieval castles, alpine landscapes, and quaint villages before heading on to Zurick where we’ll try to have a lakeside dinner and walkabout. Afterwards, we’ll jet off to Florencia for the night.
Day 5 // Florencia, San Marino, Bologna, and Rome
Today we’re headed to micro-San Marino, with it’s castle-like citadels, walled old-city, and narrow cobblestone streets. Then back on the train to Bologna to explore sprawling plazas lined with arched colonnades, cafes and medieval and Renaissance structures. Journey continues to an evening roam around Rome for the night.
