Interested in getting your life story out of your mind and onto the page?
Join us at Ryde Library for a five week memoir writing workshop for beginners by learning the important steps to uncovering your personal stories and shaping them into powerful narratives over 5 weekly sessions. The sessions will be facilitated by students from Macquarie University.
In this workshop, participants will learn about:
- Memory-jogging activities (music, photos, movement, places) to spark significant recollections
- How to keep diary notes to capture impressions, emotions and details
- Techniques to strengthen your emotional and intellectual connection with your past
- Finding and experimenting with your unqiue writing voice
- Choosing a life experience - such as a relationship or a meaningful period - as the focus of your memoir.
- Using your notes as a framing device, even if your chosen topic is different
- Guidance, feedback and strategies to overcome writing challenges.
Each attendee will be given a writing journal and laptops can be provided for use, you are welcome to bring your own laptop. If using a library laptop please bring a USB flash drive/memory stick to each session.
