GAB is a process of documenting your life stories with the assistance of a trained facilitator using thematic focus and priming questions to evoke memories of events that might have been kept in the background or even forgotten over time. The process also involves sharing these stories in a group setting with receptive fellow participants who have the same interest and commitment.
The GAB process has been well studied and shown to have the following benefits to participants:
Increased self-acceptance
Increased energy and vigor
Increased positive views of others
Decreased anxiety and tension
A feeling of connectedness and friendship
The Facilitator: Normala Manap
Director of Age Matters, an agecare consultancy and training agency. Normala is a master trainer in GAB who believes firmly in the power and possibilities of our later lives. She has been involved in social development for more than three decades, particularly in the health and agecare industries. As an age care pioneer in Singapore, she had been involved in building new care models, developing infrastructure for care integration, setting service standards and rolling out competency roadmaps for the sector.
Themes covered under GAB 1 include:
Major branching points of my life
My family
My career/life work
My body and health
Open to any persons aged 50 and above interested in writing their own story.
