MY HUSBAND MAKES MOVIES |A JOHN SCHLESINGER FILM FESTIVAL
A Benefit For The Palm Springs Cultural Center
Jan 27 - Mar 17
Join me, Michael Childers, for a celebration of the visionary work of my late husband, director John Schlesinger. This festival is a tribute to John’s legacy as a filmmaker and his fearless exploration of humanity through the art of cinema.
Each evening begins in the Historic Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center with onstage interviews featuring actors, filmmakers, and collaborators who will share their experiences and insights into John’s storytelling and creative genius.
Then we will screen these groundbreaking films on the big screen offering a rare opportunity to rediscover the artistry and boldness of his work as it was meant to be seen.
In the lobby, explore a special exhibition of rare, on-set photographs captured during the making of these iconic films.
All proceeds from this benefit festival will support the Revival Film Program at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, helping to ensure classic cinema continues to thrive for future generations.
Darling (1965)
Julie Christie, Dirk Bogarde, Laurence Harvey
Darling is a sharp, stylish examination of fame, desire, and emptiness. Under Schlesinger’s direction, Julie Christie won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her iconic performance, while the film itself earned five nominations, including Best Director. It remains a defining work of 1960s British cinema and a testament to Schlesinger’s ability to reveal the complexities of modern life.
