Nebraska Wesleyan University begins the new year with a choir tour in Iowa and Nebraska entitled "My Heart Be Brave," culminating in this performance on campus. NWU's University Choir and Gold Standard Singers will share colorful, eclectic repertoire by a variety of diverse composers, including Pavel Chesnokov, Rosephanye Powell, Tom Trenney, Jan Pieterswoon Sweelinck, Abbie Betinis, Marques Garrett, and Moses Hogan. For this home concert, choirs from Elkhorn North High School and Lincoln's North Star High School will perform with the NWU students.A recent finalist in the American Prize for Collegiate Choirs, the Nebraska Wesleyan University Choir has recently performed Mahler's Second Symphony with Lincoln's Symphony Orchestra and Adolphus Hailstork's I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes on the stage at Carnegie Hall. This summer, the ensemble will sing Mozart's Requiem at the historic Saints Simon and Jude Church in Prague. The NWU Choirs are committed to singing with intention and expression to uplift and inspire.
"Though music may not have the power to cure us, we believe that singing can bring healing and hope," said NWU's Conductor of Choirs, Tom Trenney. "Singing meaningful music from diverse cultures can deepen our empathy and broaden our understanding. We hope this program-- filled with authentic artistic expressions of courage, resilience, and hope-- will encourage and empower our students to leave the concert hall with a heart of deeper compassion."
