“I don’t know if you can take care of orangutans, Rachel, because you’re a girl.”That was one of many lines zookeepers once faced.
You’re invited to a special screening of “My Grandfather: The Zookeeper” at UAFS in Fort Smith.
This feature-length documentary follows UAFS alumnus and filmmaker Josiah Olmstead as he uncovers the legacy of his grandfather, a former San Diego zookeeper and co-founder of the American Association of Zoo Keepers.
What began as a family project grew into a powerful story of compassion, connection, and conservation, offering an in-depth look into the people who devote their lives to caring for wildlife.
Through never-before-heard stories from AAZK’s founders and zookeepers nationwide, the film captures both the struggles and triumphs of a profession often overlooked. Witness their untold stories come alive.
