Embark on a musical adventure with "My First Pipa Class", an exclusive event designed for enthusiasts of all ages and experience levels who are eager to delve into the rich tapestry of Pipa, a classical Chinese string instrument revered for its melodious beauty.

In this immersive session, you'll not only learn the basics of playing the Pipa but also delve into its rich cultural history. Hosted in the serene and culturally rich environment of the San Diego Chinese Historical Museum, located at 404 3rd Ave, San Diego, CA 92101, this event is not just a class but a cultural immersion. As you step into the world of traditional Chinese music, our expert instructors will guide you through the history and significance of the Pipa, demonstrating its intricate playing techniques and melodious expressions.

Set within the inspiring ambiance of the museum, surrounded by artifacts and stories of Chinese heritage, this class is more than a learning experience—it's a journey into the heart of traditional Chinese music.


Pipa Teacher - Lu Liu

Lu Liu is a professional and award-winning Pipa musician with 20 years of performance experience and 10 years of teaching experience. She has earned many accolades, including the Gold Medal in the 2017 New York Chinese Instruments International Competition and the New York State Arts Achievement Award.

Lu is a member of the China Nationalities Orchestra Society and Chinese-American Arts Council. As the Artistic Producer/Featured Soloist of Chinese Music Ensemble of New York and the Cross-cultural Music Director/Featured Soloist/Composer of Chinese Theatre Works, Lu has given Pipa performances at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Concert Hall, Asia Society, Off-Broadway, United Nations Headquarters, the Empire State Building, Federal Hall, and Columbia University, among many other venues. She holds a Master of Arts and Cultural Management degree and is dedicated in conducting Sino-American cultural and musical exchanges as a Pipa performer, educator, director, and producer.


*** The classes will be held every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am - 12 pm, with each session lasting one hour. Please note that in order to save your spot, this pre-registration is required. We encourage interested music lovers to register early, as spaces are limited and tend to fill up quickly.
