The My First Period Workshop is designed to prepare both her and you for the start of menstrual cycles with a focus on science, values, and celebrating the dignity of women.

Why target ages 9-12?
Because early preparation has been proven to empower girls to understand what's happening (and why!) and to embrace puberty as a healthy, normal part of life, not to fear it! The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states, "girls who have been educated about menarche and early menstrual patterns will experience less anxiety when they occur." Even if her period arrives later, she'll have friends going through it—and early preparation helps her be a supportive and understanding friend.

Space is limited.
We have room for 24 parent/child pairs = 48 people total.

-Anatomy & "Equation of Life" *
-A closer look at menstrual cycle hormones
-Briefly talk about the stages and signs of puberty, including breast development and cervical mucus (not every girl notices this before her first period but for those that do, it is extremely helpful to know it is normal and natural)
-What you can expect with your first period
-Different "tools" to help when your period does arrive.
-Decorate your own period kit bag!
-Building sisterhood in our communities

*In order to fully understand the purpose of the female cycle we must briefly discuss the "Equation of Life". Egg + Sperm = Potential new life. We will not go into detail about the process of sperm meeting egg. Parents will be provided with resources to continue the discussion with their child.
