You’ve been talking about wanting to write more, maybe you even bought a nice notebook, some cool pens. But the page is still blank, the thoughts still in your head. Can you dedicate just an hour a month to getting your writing going? Award-winning poet and fiction writer Jennifer Schomburg Kanke hosts a monthly writing circle at My Favorite Books on the 4th Saturday of each month.What’s a writing circle?
A writing circle can be many different things. This one will focus on writing through a number of different writing prompts meant to get your creative mind flowing without fear of judgement or critiquing. No feedback will be given on your writing and no one will be asked to share their writing with the group. This is about getting something down on the page that you can go back and revise later (or not, the act of writing is a joy in itself, so it’s all cool).
What do you need to bring?
A pen
Plenty of paper
Can you bring a computer?
There’s something different about the feeling of pen on paper and I’d love for everyone to get to experience that, however I also understand that some folks might need to use their computer, and that’s cool too.
When is it? Do I have to come every month?
This month's writing circle is on January 24th at 10:00 am at My Favorite Books in the Magnolia Park shopping center (Note: The store is still open at its Market Street location, but we're getting a sneak peek and getting to have the writing circle at the new location where they're sharing space with Courtyard Cafe and Games before the official February opening!). You don’t need to attend every month. Whenever you can make it, we’ll be glad to see you.
How long will it last?
Each circle is based off the writing prompt structure JSK uses in her Meter&Mayhem Substack prompts. The whole process takes less than an hour and then you have a draft of something new to play with later. Yes, just an hour!
