"MY FATHER’S NAME is a gripping and essential exploration of race, accountability, and the far-reaching consequences of family secrets."— Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
UU Community Church invites you to join us for a screening of My Father’s Name, a powerful new documentary short film by Susanna Styron (2024, 20 minutes, USA), followed by a community discussion.
The film tells the intimate story of Jan Frazier, who discovers—years after her father’s death—that he participated in a lynching. What begins as a search for truth becomes a deeply personal reckoning. Jan must confront her love for her father, grapple with family accountability, and face the dawning awareness of her own unconscious racism.
We are honored that Jan Frazier will join us via Zoom to share in the conversation about her moving story—one that speaks not only to a family’s legacy, but also to how we as a nation continue to wrestle with history, justice, and healing.
📅 Date/Time: Sunday, October 5 from Noon-1 PM
📍 Location: UU Community Church, 10441 Shaver Rd in Portage 🖥️ To participate via Zoom, register at tinyurl.com/uuccmyfathersname.
Please join us for this important film screening and dialogue.
