Every year, Merging Vets and Players Los Angeles hosts the Annual Walk to Remember in honor of Memorial Day. We invite everyone in the community to join us. Together we'll embark on a journey from Santa Monica Pier (by the cannon) to the LA National Cemetery, arriving just in time for their Ceremony held every year. This walk is about 4.8 miles through the city so it is stroller and wagon friendly via large sidewalks. Traffic is pretty light and we're a large group.Memorial Day is tough day for many and we don't want anyone to be alone, join us and spend the morning honoring and remembering those no longer with us. You'll be walking alongside fellow veterans, families, and supporters. No agenda other than to be on time so you can spend the time connecting with others.
Bring your family, friends, and loved ones as this event is open to the public and anyone is welcomed to join us!
Below are key details:
- Monday, May 27th, 2024
- Santa Monia Pier meeting area (by the cannon)
- 7:00 AM - National Anthem
- 7:15 AM - Firm step off
- 10AM - Arrive at Memorial Ceremony at LA National Cemetery
What to bring?
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes
- Bring your flags (if you choose to carry one)
- Snacks/Water, etc.
Merging Vets & Players (MVP), is a peer support community that brings together combat veterans and former professional athletes to help them find meaning, purpose, and identity after the uniform comes off.
Parking: Many people choose to park at the pier or VA campus depending on their choice, and find way back to their vehicle via ride share, friend ride, or public transit.
**In addition to the walk, many of us also help the cemetery place flags prior to Memorial Day, this year the flag placement ceremony will be on the 25th. This is coordinated by the LA National Cemetery themselves, not MVP, if you'd like to help, you can look up more info and show up to volunteer at 7:00 AM to be assigned areas. Many organizations volunteer too!
