The trio will play music by Antonin Dvořák, Max Bruch, and Siegfried Fall. The Max Bruch piece, “Selections from Eight Pieces for Violin, Cello & Piano, Op. 83,” is unusual in that it was originally written for clarinet, viola, and piano. The version that will be played on December 14 is different in that the violin often plays in its lower range to match the clarinet's generally lower register, and the cello, playing the viola part, often plays higher than the violin to match the viola's naturally higher range than the cello. This makes for an interesting and far less common blend than the traditional roles these instruments play in the typical piano trio.
