Come along to mussel up for our scorched mussel restoration trial in Encounter Bay, and learn about local fish habitats! We’ll be hosting a session to make mussel mats in time for the recruitment of baby mussels to boost local fish prey and filter-feeders. This will involve hand stitching biodegradable coconut fibre mats filled with rocks before they go out onto our restoration sites.
When & where
Date: Sunday 4th January 2026
Time: 9:30am – 12:30pm ACDT
Venue: Encounter Bay Boat Ramp, Encounter Bay SA 5211
*Pending time and tides, may drive to other restoration sites along Franklin Parade.
What to bring:
For land-based work to help make the mussel mats, make sure to bring sun-safe gear for working outdoors including long-sleeved shirts, hats, sunscreen and enclosed shoes.
For supporting any deployment, you'll need reef walkers, waders or dive boots for working in the intertidal zone, plus towels and clothes that can get wet.
We hope to see you there!
