The opening varsity matchup at 3 p.m. will feature Orchard View Cardinals and the Wyoming Lee Legends. Although the Cardinals are not returning any starters from last year, they will have five returning players who are starters this year. The Cardinals are guard heavy and with their quickness and hustle figure to challenge opponents with their stifling defense.
Meanwhile, Wyoming Lee is coming off an impressive year winning 19 games and winning a conference title last year.
In the 5:00pm tilt Whitehall will take on Coopersville. Whitehall features one of the best players in West Michigan. Western Michigan University commit, Cam Thompson holds school records with over 1000 points and 1000 rebounds. The Vikings won their conference last year. Coopersville is coming off a 21-4 season last year that included a semifinal upset of Rockford High School. This year they are considered a favorite to win the new River Cities Conference.
In the marquee matchup of the night at 7:00pm, Muskegon will take on Lansing Everett High School. Muskegon features three key players well worth the price of admission.
Senior guard and Ferris State commit, Keashawn Johnson has range, athleticism and work ethic to be a nightmare on both ends of the court.
Elija Langston a 6’8” senior also committed to Ferris State, is one of the most versatile athletes in the state with abilities as a shot blocker on defense and as a rebounder and low post threat on offense.
And then there is James Martin, a 6’ 3” junior guard, who is a human highlight film and one of the most electric players in Michigan. At this writing we don’t have much information on Lansing Everett, the home high school of Magic Johnson, except that they come out of the tough CAAC Blue Conference.
The Holiday Classic is a fund-raising event that began in 2002. Since its inception, the event has returned more than $150,000 to area high school athletic programs thanks in large part to a generous group of donors and volunteers as well as the many attendees.

Organized in 1986, the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame honors our own heroes and legends, spanning the rich history of sports achievement in the Lake Michigan shoreline area anchored by Ludington to the North and Grand Haven to the south. The Hall of Fame exhibit is located in downtown Muskegon in the Trinity Health Arena and features a fascinating collection of artifacts, photos and commemorative plaques honoring the area's sports heritage.
