Dr. Belén Vega-Pichaco will explore the relationship between music and poetry in Cuba from the 1920s to the 1950s, focusing on Afrocubanism and the influence of Hispanophilia in the works and ideas of Orígenes and Grupo de Renovación Musical, both connected to the Musicalia journal and Spanish migration and exile.Dr. Vega-Pichaco is Associate Professor of Musicology at the University of La Rioja, Spain. Her research focuses on ideology, music criticism, and identity in relation to Cuban and Latin American art music and dance of the twentieth century, areas in which she has published extensively. She is currently a Visiting Scholar at the Latin American Music Center at Indiana University.
