Join Concerteenies and Grimm and Co. for the musical story of ‘The Big Dreaming’, perfect for children aged 3-8 and their families.

The Cold is coming, and it's time for Big Bear and Little Bear to get ready for the Big Sleep: for bears sleep all winter long, and wake up in the spring. But Little Bear is worried. What if they run out of dreams during the Big Sleep? And so, Little Bear sets out bravely to find enough dreams to see them through the long winter. On his journey, he discovers dreams of happiness; dreams of homecoming; and dreams of hope. But with the Cold approaching fast, will Little Bear make it back home in time for the Big Dreaming?’

Pianist Tom Pickles and narrator Polly Ives combine new music composed by award-winning Paul Rissmann with the book written by Michael Rosen and illustrated by Daniel Egnéus. The performance also features stunning digital animation by Victor Craven.

With songs, actions and makaton signs to join in with and a relaxed, friendly environment, this is an ideal introduction to music, animation and storytelling.

Join us in The Den for 30 minutes each before the concert for a ‘Make a Dreamcatcher’ activity, a sensory corner and make a den. Dreamcatchers come from the Native American Ojibwe Tribe - they protect us from bad dreams as we sleep. Grimm and Co.'s café, the Feastery, serves hot food and drinks from 10:00 until 15:00. Copies of The Big Dreaming will be available to buy at Grimm & Co.’s book shop.

Visit www.concerteenies.com/resources to learn the songs and actions before the concert (coming soon).

This piece was commissioned by Concerteenies (2023), and is possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England, the PRS foundation and the Vaughan Williams Foundation. It was co-created with children and teachers at Beck Primary School and Whiteways Primary School in Sheffield. The Big Dreaming is published by Bloomsbury Children’s Books.
