About this Event
Join us at Ryde Library as we relax with the talents of the singers of the Macquarie Singers (MUS) while enjoying a cuppa and a biscuit. MUS fosters, supports and performs choral music and has always aimed to encourage the formation of strong links with the wider community through singing.
Musical Morning Tea is a regular City of Ryde Libraries program hosted by Ryde Library on the 2nd Monday of each month (excluding Public Holidays and some school holidays). The event features local musical groups or performers and attendees can enjoy a cup of tea/coffee and a biscuit while they listen to the talented performances.
About the performers
Macquarie Singers is an acclaimed not-for-profit community choir based at North Ryde. The choir was established by the renowned carillonist John Gordon in 1967, the year that Macquarie University first opened to students. The choir became an incorporated association in July 2017 – Macquarie Singers Inc, still affectionately known as MUS. Our membership is open and non-auditioned, and students, staff and alumni of the University are still encouraged to join even though we are no longer associated with the University. Members of our choir mainly come from Sydney's North Shore - North Sydney, North Ryde, Ryde, Macquarie Park and Epping predominantly, but others are willing to travel from further away.
Rehearsals are held every Monday evening between 7-9.30pm at the North Ryde Uniting Church in Cutler Pde, North Ryde. While the choir performs two major concerts per year, we also hold free community singing workshops, and as part of our community engagement program we perform at various singing events in the local community - for example, nursing home events, Carols on the Common, and Carols in the Club (at the North Ryde RSL Club), We have been successful in the past with Ryde Council community grant funding. Dr Philip Eames joined Macquarie Singers as our new Principal Conductor in 2023. In 2018 we warmly welcomed Macquarie Chamber Orchestra with Concertmaster Sagar Nagaraj to partner with us.
