University of Texas Rio Grande Valley Trombone ChoirApplause Series
The UTRGV Trombone Choir proudly represents the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at events and conferences at the local, state, national, and international levels. The ensemble is under the direction of Dr. Pedro Martinez, Professor of Trombone.
Trombone Choir is an important part of the trombone curriculum, allowing students to apply concepts in a group setting and participate in a chamber ensemble where they take personal responsibility for their parts. The ensemble rehearses weekly and performs 1-2 concerts per semester, which may include off-campus and out-of-town events, with extra rehearsals before major performances. Consisting of 8-22 trombonists, the choir focuses on honing ensemble skills like blend, balance, and intonation with repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary works, including UTRGV student premieres. The aim is to improve section playing skills for other ensembles like Symphonic Band, Wind Orchestra, or Symphony Orchestra.
