About this Event
Music Sermon Series: Divine Frequency: When Music Becomes Prayer
Series Dates: January 11 – February 15, 2026
Series Overview: What if the divine speaks not just in whispers, but in melodies? What if the Spirit moves not only through silence, but through rhythm, harmony, and song? This transformative six-week journey explores how music becomes a sacred language—from the defiant hope of spirituals born in bondage to the raw honesty of Bruce Springsteen's heartland hymns. Each Sunday, we'll immerse ourselves in a different musical tradition, discovering how bluegrass harmonies mirror heavenly community, how jazz improvisation teaches us about grace, and how protest songs become prayers for justice. Come ready to worship with your whole body—mind, heart, and soul—as we tune our lives to the frequency of the divine.
THIS WEEK: Folk Protest Songs. "This Land Is Whose Land? Singing Truth to Power"
Some songs comfort the disturbed; others disturb the comfortable. Folk protest music—from Woody Guthrie's dust bowl ballads to modern voices of resistance—serves as the soundtrack to social awakening. These three-chord prophets sing what Amos preached: that God has no patience for empty worship while injustice runs wild. Today we'll discover how picking up a guitar can be as radical as picking up a cross, and why sometimes the most faithful thing you can do is sing the truth that makes people squirm.
