On the first Thursday of every month during the academic year, the Center for Music of the Americas presents our Music of the Spheres concert series in partnership with Blue Tavern, Midtown Tallahassee's favorite neighborhood joint. On April 3, we welcome for the first time One for the Foxes, a fantastic new trio playing an innovative blend of Irish and American traditional songs and tunes. Comprised of Dublin’s Tadhg Ó Meachair (of Goitse), Galway’s Dave Curley (of SLIDE) and Denver, Colorado’s Joanna Hyde (of The Hydes), this dynamic band strikes a tasteful balance between the stories found in ballads across both sides of the Atlantic and the respective instrumental music traditions of these places. Award-winning instrumentalists each in their own right, Dave, Tadhg & Joanna take a unique twist on the diverse strengths of their individual backgrounds, weaving between traditional melodies, their own compositions, and songs from the broader folk canon. Through a shared deep-rooted passion for Irish traditional music, this trio highlights the vital role of Irish traditional music as an origin of many American folk musics, and explores how those styles can interact with one another in a manner both eclectic and grounded.
As always, cover charge is a nominal $5, and Blue Tavern will be serving its justifiably renowned filé gumbo, red beans and rice, sandwiches (including vegetarian and vegan options) and a variety of beer, wine, coffee, tea, and soft drinks. Hope to see you there!
