The Pickup BandWith a mix of high-energy rock and country, the Pickup Band is guaranteed to add an extra level of excitement to any event. From the first song to the last, the audience will be clapping, dancing and, best of all, singing along! The 5-piece group is made up of experienced musicians that are both local and not so local. Phil Holstein on lead and rhythm guitar and vocals and Rocky Smith on bass guitar and vocals are Rockbridge natives. John Good on all things percussion has called the county home since 1993. Leading the pack are Kenton Kody on guitars, fiddle, banjo, mandolin and vocals and the one and only Gloria Lewayne doing most of the vocal work. She has also been known to pick up the guitar and shake a mean tambourine. Husband and wife team Gloria and Kenton have played in groups up and down the east coast and have lived in the area for 5+ years.
The band covers a wide spectrum of musical styles. From the classic rock of Creedence, the Stones and Grand Funk Railroad to the latest country hits by Lainey Wilson, Little Big Town and Ashley McBride, the band does it all. The Pickup Band takes pride in every one of its performances and approaches each job with the commitment to providing the best show possible.

This annual summer series is a local treasure. It is so refreshing to attend a Friday night event where family, friends and neighbors can enjoy great local music in a relaxing atmosphere. The concerts are also kid and pet-friendly, affordable, easily accessible and welcoming to everyone.
Musicians take the stage at 6:30 and conclude at 8pm as the sun goes down. The gate opens at 5:30 pm so that early arrivers can meet up with friends to picnic, socialize, or get a bite to eat. This year, food truck vendor Troy Sheller with LexVegas Bistro will join us for all the concerts.
Admission to Music in the Garden is free for kids and current Boxerwood members and $5 per adult for non-members. There's no charge for parking in the field. We have handicapped parking and the terrain is suitable for wheelchairs.
Bring your own beverages, lawn chairs, blankets. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome as long as you clean up after them. In the Boxerwood tradition, our gatherings are zero waste, so please be mindful and pack out your trash.
