"Music for the Bees" is the creative graduation project of singer Inneke Van de Velde and harpsichordist Liselotte Sels (Royal Conservatoire Antwerp). With this cultural and informative event, we want to raise awareness about the precarious situation of bees in these troubled times for nature. The importance of these little precious, hard-working creatures for nature and mankind is underpinned by beautiful pictures, videos, artworks, and music.
Three composers have written new music especially for this occasion! The central piece of the evening is "Les abeilles", a pocket opera by Iradj Sahbai (former student of Messiaen), about bee life, and the trials and tribulations of a queen bee, supported by a choir of worker bees and drones, and upheld by two harpsichords and a string quartet. Umut Eldem offers a synaesthetic experience of sound and vision, and Joost Van Kerkhove takes us to the next level with his electronic inventions. Last but not least, we are proud to present to you a selection of Frank Agsteribbe's suite "D'Amour piqué d'une mouche à miel" for mezzo soprano, countertenor, cello and harpsichord.
In collaboration with: Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen, Het Oude Badhuis, Vlaams Bijeninstituut, Week van de Bij, MELI.
