About this Event

Music as a resource for health & wellbeing: Research and everyday practice

For millennia, music has been an integral component of health and healing practices. Advances in research and technology have broadened our understanding of how music supports health and wellbeing, as well as the mechanisms underlying music’s capacity. At Anglia Ruskin University, the Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research (CIMTR) is a world leader in music therapy and music-based intervention research. Learn how their team of researchers is exploring how music and music therapy can help to address some of the most complex health issues in today’s world. Professor Heiderscheit will share key findings from some of CIMTR’s latest research and translate this into everyday ways you can use music as a resource to foster health and wellbeing.

Annie Heiderscheit, Ph.D., MT-BC, LMFT is Professor of Music Therapy and Director of the Cambridge Institute for Music Therapy Research at Anglia Ruskin University. She is a board-certified music therapist and a licensed marriage and family therapist and has over 20 years of experience conducting research and teaching undergraduate, graduate courses and PhD students, and over 30 years of clinical experience in a variety of healthcare and community-based clinical settings in the US. She has served in leadership positions in the World Federation of Music Therapy (WFMT), the International Association of Music and Medicine (IAMM), and American Music Therapy Association (AMTA). She frequently lectures and presents internationally and nationally and has published extensively on her clinical work and research.
