This uniquely energetic and intimate music will be performed by local musicians through the medium of the piano, voice, clarinet, violin, organ, and brass ensemble. They will present selections by famous composers like Scott Joplin and Joseph Lamb, and by less familiar ones, including a very special Alaskan ragtime song composed in 1916 by the African American woman, Mattie Crosby aka Tootsie. We’ll also hear more contemporary pieces anchored in the ragtime and blues tradition, showing how this music - which spawned jazz, rock, hip-hop, and other American popular music genres - continues to evolve and remain relevant.
