About this Event
Tasting Notes
In this 2-hour event, Professor Stalarow of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music combines music appreciation with wine tasting as guests explore five excellent wines, each with a musical pairing. Tasting Notes features fine wines (sparking, white, and red) from small producers that farm sustainably and use low-intervention wine-making practices. Each wine will feature musical pairings from the world of classical music as well from folk and popular genres. Come learn some music history as you experience how listening intentionally can change the ways we smell and taste wine! In this Spring 2024 season of Tasting Notes, we will explore over two evenings the themes of Nostalgia and Novelty.
Nostalgia (March 3rd)
Join us March 3rd as we explore nostalgia through listening and tasting. Smell, taste, and listening all evoke powerful memories and longing for different kinds of pasts: collective, individual, real, and imaginary. We will explore these perceptions and focus on wine makers and musicians who have used their art to connect to traditions and histories in their respective fields.
Novelty (28 April)
On April 28th we look to the future for inspiration, surprise, and delight as we taste and hear novelty in music/wine pairings. We'll explore lesser-known grape varietals and unique expressions of the classics. Likewise, our musical choices will highlight pieces that pushed against the status quo to challenge, amuse, or shock.
