Fungi as a Path Forward: A broad discussion of the past, present, and future of fungi, and our intricate connection with them.
Join your host Robin Jackson for a conversation about how mushrooms and fungi have literally created the world around us, and have made us dependent upon them. From food to medicine, agriculture, building materials, clothing, leather, and maybe even future space travel! Fungi are both the newest as well as oldest form of biotechnology, and a major path forward toward sustainability across the board.
There will be lots of fungi present as visual aids.
Your Host: Former head chef of one of Canada’s most acclaimed restaurants, the Sooke Harbour House. Robin’s culinary influence has been heavily inspired by the fascinating world of fungi, the Slow Food movement, and by numerous local food farmers and foragers.
Over the last few years Robin and his wildlife ecologist wife, Dr. Melanie Clapham created a gourmet mushroom farm called West Coast Mycology, where they grow, culture, preserve, and share gourmet and medicinal mushroom strains from their region as well as around the world. With a culture library constantly expanding, Robin has (for now) traded in his cooking knives for a scalpel and his Mycology laboratory.
