About this Event

DESCRIPTION

Explore the fascinating world of fungi cultivation with our comprehensive class that covers everything from mycelium to mature mushrooms. Guest instructor Ben Jaffe will begin with a lecture on mushroom life cycles and biology, then we'll move on to the practicalities, tackling both home cultivation using simple DIY methods and more advanced techniques for larger-scale operations. The highlight? You'll get hands-on experience creating your own Blue Oyster grow block to nurture at home. Each 90-minute session is designed to include a 45-minute informative talk, followed by interactive mushroom spawning and a Q&A. Plus, take the opportunity to cultivate home-grown mushrooms with discounted MarrowStone Mushroom grow kits.

Due to the high demand of this workshop, we are offering two identical sessions, choose the one that works best for you.

This workshop is intended for those age 13+.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Ben Jaffe has been cultivating mushrooms for almost 12 years now. He started at home using a canner doing PF tek, and now runs MarrowStone Mushrooms where they grow nearly 800lbs of gourmet mushrooms a year. He's grown mushrooms using a variety of DIY techniques and even at our current scale, he believes, and teachs under the premise that mushrooms can be grown for cheap or for free with enough ingenuity and dedication to the craft. Fungi are amazing organisms and we still have so much to know. The more people we have experimenting in the mycological sphere, the quicker our community can learn from each others breakthroughs and observations.
