Join us for the Muse & Make Series, a relaxed, drop-in art making experience at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington! On select Sundays in August & September, explore the intersection of art and inspiration as you create in the galleries alongside curated still lifes, our current exhibition, ‘Still, Life! Meaning and Mending in Contemporary Art,’ and collection of site-specific installations. Each session will feature a local teaching artist offering guidance on techniques in plein air and still life approaches. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just exploring your creative side, this free-form event is designed to spark your imagination and offer a welcoming space to make art in community!
Featured Teaching Artists:
◾ August 10: Julie Quick – Award-winning local plein air artist specializing in pastel
◾ August 24: Delaney Marie Thomas – Watercolor artist inspired by nature, children’s books, and fairy tales
◾ September 14: TBA
◾ September 28: Zillah Smith – Illustrator working in ink, watercolor, gouache, and digital media
Bring your own materials (see guidelines below), choose a seat in any of the galleries, and let the artwork, still life setups, and creative atmosphere spark your imagination. Whether you’re sketching, painting, collaging, knitting, or simply experimenting, artists of all ages and experience levels are welcome.
What to Bring:
Participants must bring their own art supplies. All materials must be water-soluble and non-aerosol. Permissible mediums:
◾ Pencil, colored pencil
◾ Water-soluble markers
◾ Watercolor, gouache
Other acceptable projects:
◾ Knitting, crochet, quilting
◾ Collage, scrapbooking, jewelry making
