The village has been busy with preparations for the Afternoon Tea in the Church Hall. The villagers looked forward to a pleasant afternoon, unaware of the tensions and secrets rife in Lower Ashford.The Vicar greeted the guests as they arrived, and his wife was busy in the kitchen cutting the crusts off the sandwiches and arranging the dainty cakes on stands. It was going to be a lovely party.
Suddenly, they were interrupted by village resident Colonel Jefferson with news of a terrible accident. Under the spires of St Matthews Church, adjacent to the hall, local postman Andrew Richards had been hit on head by a stone gargoyle – apparently fallen from the church roof.
Now, the police have been called and immediately open an investigation. Unlikely accident? Or are there other forces at play?
Chief Inspector Appleby is determined to get to the truth, and he quickly reduces his suspects to just four people. He asks the other guests at the tea for their help.
