Every month we will invite a featured artist, creative, or maker to show their work and offer brief remarks at 5:45 pm. This month in the pilot MuncieArts Artist Spotlight, we are featuring artist and recent Ball State graduate Andie Arana Gomez, who is also the MuncieArts summer apprentice. They received their BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Painting, Drawing, and Printmaking. Arana Gomez focuses on themes of immigration, identity, and cultural heritage. In their most recent show, Try Reaping the Corn from My Body, Arana Gomez explored these themes through a series of six paintings in which they created a unique visual language while also taking inspiration from the iconic Mayan myths native to their home country of Guatemala.
