Lecture by Dr. Ewelina Boczkowska, Assistant Professor of Musicology, and Dr. Rebecca Howard, Assistant Professor of Art History, University of MemphisThe lecture is supported by the University of Memphis Communities of Research Scholars (CoRS) grant.
Ewelina Boczkowska holds a PhD in musicology from the University of California, Los Angeles and was formerly a distinguished full professor in Ohio. Her research focuses on the intersection of music, trauma, and the fluidity of memory. A former NEH recipient, a New York Public Library Fellow, and a visiting scholar at Universities in Europe and the United States, she is co-editor of the series Music and Sound on the International Screen (Routledge). At the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, she teaches courses in post 19th century music, including American music.
Rebecca Howard holds a PhD in art history from The Ohio State University. She specializes in early modern Italian portraiture, memory, expressions of identity and race, and Renaissance trade. She has published several articles on these topics and her book, Portraiture and Mnemonics in Renaissance Italy, is currently under contract with Amsterdam University Press. In the Department of Art & Design at the University of Memphis, she teaches courses in Renaissance and Baroque art history.
