About this Event

This training helps participants learn about trauma and implications of traumatic experiences on the brain through a neuroscience perspective that offers a broadened perspective to behavior and intervention. Understanding these concepts and incorporating a new ‘multicultural trauma informed lens’ can reshape our interactions with minoritized communities. Knowing this approach helps participants advocate and implement new strategies in their professional settings.


Learning Objectives:

· Learn about the history, research, and foundation of Trauma Informed Care. 2

· Learn about Trauma Informed Care from a historical, generational, and racial lens.

· Identify the impact of trauma and culture on minoritized populations.

· Explore the elements of a trauma responsive community and supports available in the community.


Schedule (6.5 CEUs):

  • 8:00-8:30am – Attendee Registration/Check-in
  • 8:30-10:00am- Learn about the history, research, and foundation of Trauma Informed Care. (1.5 hrs)
  • 10:00-10:15am- BREAK
  • 10:15-11:45a-Learn about Trauma Informed Care from a historical, generational, and racial lens. (1.5 hrs)
  • 11:45-12:45 pm – Lunch (attendees and speaker are on their own)
  • 12:45-2:45pm- Identify the impact of trauma and culture on minoritized populations. (2.0 hrs)
  • 2:45-2:55pm- BREAK
  • 2:55-4:25 pm- Explore the elements of a trauma responsive community and support available in the community. (1.5hrs)
  • 4:25-4:30pm- Wrap up, Q&A

Meet the Speaker:

McKenna Garvey is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Perinatal Mental Health Certified Therapist. As an Outpatient Clinical Supervisor she specializes in complex trauma, personality disorders, and self-destructive behavior. Additionally, she holds an AODA certificate and brings trauma-informed expertise to her clinical work.

In her training role, McKenna delivers content on topics including multicultural trauma-informed care, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and identity work.

Her global experience also includes refugee resettlement and family reunification, underlining her commitment to social justice and equity. She integrates lived experience, somatic mind–body approaches, and trauma-informed principles into her workshops and supervision
