Spatial Audio: Techniques, Tools, and Creative PracticeAarhus Lydforening in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus/Aalborg - Det Jyske Musikkonservatorium is 3-day workshop that offers an introduction to spatial audio, combining theoretical insights with hands-on practice. Participants will explore spatial listening and sound
perception, learn the fundamentals of Ambisonics - one of the most widely used techniques in the field, and experiment with methods for composing in spatial audio.
Through practical exercises, they will become familiar with the tools and software used to create Ambisonic works, take part in a focused listening sessions, and will have a chance to develop individual compositional sketches. The workshop concludes with a presentation of participants' creations.
Prerequisites
No prior experience with spatial audio is required. However, a basic understanding of digital audio workstations (DAWs) will be helpful.

Please note that the workshop is open to up to 20 participants,
but we also have an opportunity of having a focus group of 7–8 people who will receive individual consultations from Mariam and present their work in the system.

Mariam Gviniashvili is a composer working at the intersection of electronic music, 3D sound, and multimedia performance. Her work explores the physical and emotional dimensions of sound and space, often integrating visuals and live performance within immersive formats.
Mariam has received commissions from institutions such as INA GRM, the Center for Art and Media | ZKM, and the Hong Kong Visualisation Research Centre.
Her work has been presented at festivals, venues, and radio broadcasts worldwide, including Ars Electronica, EMPAC, the New York Electroacoustic Music Festival, Virginia Tech, BEAST FEaST, Transitions at CCRMA, MA/IN, ICMC, Mixtur Festival, Klingt Gut, Heroines of Sound, Ultima Festival, and BBC Radio.
